This policy explains what happens if something goes wrong and how we'll make it right.
Understanding Custom Products
Why Your Book Is Special
Every Magic Doodle Books coloring book is made just for you:
- Personalized Creation: Each book is custom-made from your uploaded photos
- Unique AI Art: Our AI generates original scenes featuring your family members or pets
- Made-to-Order: We begin creating your book as soon as you place your order
- Cannot Be Resold: Because each book contains your personal photos and names, it cannot be used for another customer
Our No-Return Policy for Custom Products
Because each book is personalized specifically for you, we cannot accept returns or offer refunds except in the cases outlined below.
This is a standard practice for custom-made products and is required by the nature of personalization. When you place an order, you're commissioning a unique product made exclusively for you.
California Notice (Business & Professions Code §17538): Personalized and custom-made products are not returnable or refundable except for defects in materials or workmanship.
By placing an order, you acknowledge and agree to this policy. We display this policy prominently before checkout and require you to confirm you've reviewed it.
When We Provide Refunds or Replacements
While we cannot accept returns of custom products, we absolutely stand behind our quality. We'll make it right if there's a problem with your book.
1. Printing and Manufacturing Defects
We will replace or refund your book if it has:
Printing Problems (Objective Physical Failures Only):
- Pages completely missing or duplicated
- Ink failed to deposit on paper (blank pages, missing printed content)
- Pages printed upside down or in objectively wrong order
- Severe ink bleeding causing colors to run beyond boundaries
NOT Considered Defects:
- Artistic style appearing "soft," "blurry," or "faint" (this is the coloring book aesthetic)
- Subjective perception that images are "low quality"
- Disappointment with AI artistic interpretation
- Images appearing "too light" or "not detailed enough" due to artistic choices
- Any quality dissatisfaction not related to objective printing failure
Definition of "Unusable": A book is considered unusable ONLY if physical defects prevent basic coloring activity:
- Pages cannot be separated from binding for coloring
- Pages are torn or missing entirely
- Ink marks prevent pencil/crayon/marker from showing on paper
- Physical damage makes pages impossible to color on
"Unusable" does NOT mean:
- You don't like the artistic quality
- Images aren't recognizable enough for your preference
- Quality is below your expectations
Binding Issues:
- Spiral binding separated or broken upon arrival
- Pages falling out of binding
- Cover not properly attached
Material Defects:
- Pages torn or ripped upon arrival (not from use)
- Cover printing errors (wrong name, missing design elements)
- Paper quality significantly below acceptable standards
- Physical damage present when book is first opened
2. Shipping Damage
We will replace or refund if your book arrives damaged:
- Book crushed, torn, or water damaged in shipping
- Packaging shows clear external damage
- Book unusable due to transit damage
Important: Please report shipping damage within 7 days of delivery with photos of both the damaged book and the packaging.
3. Wrong Product or Delivery Errors
We will replace or refund if we sent the wrong item:
Wrong Product:
- Incorrect product tier (you ordered Deluxe but received Standard)
- Wrong theme (you ordered Christmas Adventure but received a different theme)
- Wrong personalization name on cover
Non-Delivery:
- Book not received within 30 days of order placement
- Tracking shows delivered but you never received it (subject to verification)
- Package confirmed lost by carrier
4. Our Mistakes
We will replace or refund ONLY if we made a technical error:
Technical Errors (Refund Eligible):
- Scenes generated using objectively wrong photos (photos you did NOT upload, or another customer's photos)
- Complete technical failure producing blank pages, corrupted images, or non-printable files
- Missing personalization features explicitly purchased (e.g., name on cover not printed)
- Order delivered to wrong address due to our shipping error
NOT Refundable (Artistic Interpretation, Not Errors):
- AI output that doesn't match your expectations or preferences
- Scenes where subjects aren't clearly recognizable
- Artistic interpretation differences from source photos
- Perceived "low quality" or "errors" that are subjective judgments
- Any dissatisfaction with how AI interpreted your photos
Order Processing Errors:
- You were charged the incorrect amount
- We accidentally processed duplicate orders
- Technical errors during checkout affected your order
5. What Is Not Considered a Defect
We maintain high quality standards, but please understand:

AI Artistic Interpretation: AI-generated scenes are artistic interpretations of your photos. They won't look exactly like photographs—that's the nature of turning photos into coloring book illustrations.

Style Variations: Minor variations in artistic detail, pose adjustments, or background elements are part of the coloring book art style, not defects.

Realistic Expectations: Please review our sample gallery before ordering to understand the artistic style and what to expect.
Not eligible for refund:
- Dissatisfaction with AI artistic interpretation (within normal creative parameters)
- Changed your mind after receiving the book
- Gift recipient didn't like the book (unless there's a defect)
- Photos you uploaded were poor quality (we review photos before production and will contact you if quality is insufficient)
- Incorrect shipping address or personalization text you provided
- Normal wear and tear after delivery
- Damage caused after you received the book
How to Request a Refund or Replacement
If you believe your book has a defect or error, we're here to help.
Step 1: Contact Us Promptly
Timeframes:
- Defects or wrong product: Within 14 days of delivery
- Shipping damage: Within 7 days of delivery
- Non-delivery: After 30 days from order date
Requests after these periods may not be eligible for refund or replacement.

- Decision: We'll make a decision within 5 business days and email you the outcome

If your request is approved, we'll offer one of these solutions:

- We'll create a brand new book at no charge
- We may adjust specifications to prevent the same issue
- Same quality review process as your original order
- Shipped using the same method as your original order

- Refund to your original payment method
- Includes product price, taxes, and original shipping cost (for defects or our errors)
- Processed within 7 business days per FTC regulations

- If only some pages are affected and you want to keep the book

What Happens to the Defective Book?
In most cases, you keep it. We don't require you to return defective books unless we specifically request it. If we do need it returned, we'll provide a prepaid return shipping label.
Canceling Before Your Book Ships
We understand that sometimes you need to cancel an order.
When You Can Cancel
24-Hour Window: You may request cancellation within 24 hours of placing your order, before our AI generation process begins.
How to Cancel:

- Include your order number and reason for cancellation
- Fastest results if you cancel within the first few hours
Cancellation Eligibility
Full refund available if:
- Your order hasn't been assigned to our processing queue yet
- AI generation has not begun
- No work has been completed on your order
Cancellation not possible if:
- AI generation is in progress or completed
- Your photos have been processed into scenes
- The book has been sent to our printer
Partial refund if:
- Some processing has been completed
- Amount refunded based on work already done
- We'll explain costs incurred
Processing Your Cancellation
- Cancellation requests processed within 24 hours
- Refund issued within 5-7 business days
- Refund to your original payment method
Shipping Delays and Your Rights
We work hard to get your book to you quickly, but sometimes delays happen.
Expected Delivery Timeline
Standard delivery: 7-10 business days from order placement
- 1-3 days: Order processing and AI generation
- 4-7 days: Printing and shipping
Please note: Holidays, peak seasons (especially November-December), and unforeseen circumstances may cause delays beyond our control.
Our FTC Compliance Commitment
We comply with the Federal Trade Commission Mail Order Rule (16 CFR Part 435), which protects you during shipping delays.
Our obligations:
- Ship within our stated timeframe or notify you of delays
- Provide a new expected ship date if there's a delay

We do not charge:

Processing costs:
- If we issue a partial refund, we may deduct actual costs already incurred (AI generation, printing)
- Costs will be itemized clearly in your refund notification
- Only applies when work has already been completed on your order
International Orders
Current limitation: We currently ship to U.S. addresses only. International shipping is not available at this time.
